: Biden, Harris to speak on anniversary of January 6 attack on U.S. Capitol

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will speak Thursday to mark the one-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the White House said late Sunday.

On Jan. 6, 2021, a mob of supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building, as lawmakers were certifying Biden’s electoral victory. Democrats are planning a series of events to mark the day, including a moment of silence in the House of Representatives.

The House committee investigating the insurrection, meanwhile, is preparing to go public with its findings in coming months, the Associated Press reports. The nine lawmakers — seven Democrats and two Republicans — are united in their commitment to tell the full story of Jan. 6, and they are planning televised hearings and reports that will bring their findings out into the open, AP said.

Trump also is planning to give remarks from Florida on Thursday. He has repeatedly made false claims that the election was fraudulent.
